Biography
Zatanna Zatara is the daughter of famed magician Giovanni Zatara. While she would eventually become a stage magician like her father, Zatanna learned she could access real magic at an early age. As she traveled with her father, mastering real and stage magic, she met and helped train a young Bruce Wayne, who wanted to know the ins and outs of the misdirection world. Soon Zatanna studied with the corrupt Nick Necro, and the somewhat less-corrupt, usually well-intentioned John Constantine. Zatanna and Constantine eventually vanquished Necro, but tragedy later struck when a ritual led by Constantine went awry and burned Zatanna’s father alive.
Several years later, the world was threatened by the malevolent Enchantress, and the Justice League proved helpless against her witchcraft. Realizing that the world needed a new, specialized Justice League to fight supernatural threats, Madame Xanadu recruited Zatanna, John Constantine, Deadman, and Shade the Changing Man, forming a new team: Justice League Dark.
She often performs her magic act onstage. Occasionally popping up in nightclubs across Gotham City, most often at the grand Gotham Theatre. Incorporating a certain risqué burlesque element, these displays fulfill Zatanna’s exhibitionist tendencies, as she appeals to mature, late-night audiences...
